Cash App Debit Card: Save money everytime

If you’ve been living in the US for a while, I’m sure you would’ve come across the phrases “venmo me!” or “can you just zelle me the money?” when you recently had an outing and someone else paid your share. What if I told you there’s another app that does the same and a whole lot more!

The App

The mobile app I’m talking about here is called the Cash App. It functions just like venmo/zelle/PayPal in the sense it allows you to send and receive money between users with no surcharges.

Once you receive money in your Cash App, you have the flexibility to transfer it into your linked bank account either immediately (1% fee) or in the next business day.

Value proposition

The real value however lies if you get their debit card. I for one am a huge fan of the card primarily because you can customize it’s looks by sketching whatever you like on the black card (that’s a plus too if you like matte black).

But in all seriousness, the debit card offers what’s called a boost function. When you enable this in the app, you can get the following offers on the Cash Debit card.

$1 off:

  • Coffee shops
  • Whataburger

5% off:

  • Whole Foods

10% off:

  • Chipotle
  • Chick-fil-A
  • Waffle House
  • Wingstop

Do note, each boost can be used once in 2 hours and can be changed once in 24 hours to avoid excessive use/changes.

However, I think this is a great debit card to carry as you can load it up using your bank account debit or credit card (although I’d suggest the former). There is no fee associated with using the card and it’s free to keep.

Who’s it for?

This can be put to good use by college students already on a tight budget or on-the-go coffee drinkers. Many places in cities sell to-go coffee at $2 so think of this as a nice way to save ~50% on such purchases.
